Same Sex Marriage Myths!

Posted by Deirdre Cowman 10pc on April 13, 2015 · Flag

Post by Rebelle Haze, a Sex Positive Sex Educator, owner of Rebelle-ution.com and Endangered Bodies Ireland committee member.

There has been quite a bit of talk lately about same sex marriage and quite a few myths about same sex marriage and same sex couples. I’m here to point and laugh at the stupidity of some of these myths.

1. Gays shouldn’t marry because it’s not natural!

Ah yes, being gay is not natural. As Irish people we always reject unnatural things like being able to fly in a giant metal airplane, polyester, and processed food.

2. If we let them marry then it’ll encourage more people to be Gay!

Same sex marriage will encourage people to be gay, of course it will! When the campaign for equality is over the very first thing the LGBT community is going to do is go on a recruitment drive! City centres all over the country will be overrun with people carrying rainbow coloured membership cards. You know the same way I hang around with tall people so that I can be tall too!

3. If we let Gay people marry then it’s only a matter of time before people will be marrying their pets!

Legalising same sex marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behaviour. People may even wish to marry their pets. All they are waiting for is the gay community to go first. After all if two consenting adults can get married then I should be able to marry my labrador right? Y’know, because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

4. Marraige isn’t open to change!

Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn’t changed one single bit. Women are still property, blacks still can’t marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.

5. The sanctity of marriage will be destroyed!

Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed. The sanctity of Britney Spears’ 55 hour marriage and Kim Kardashian’s 72 day marriage would be destroyed.

6. Marriages should produce children

Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, old people and those who don’t want children shouldn’t be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren’t full yet, and the world needs more children.

7. Gay parents will raise Gay children!

Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

8. The Church does not support it!

Gay marriage is not supported by the Church. Of course in Ireland we have only one type of church with one view. We also also listen to everything that church teaches, that’s exactly why there are no artificial contraceptives in Ireland and nobody has sex outside of marriage, y’know cause the church doesn’t allow it.

9. Children need a Male and a Female role model in their lives!

Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model. That’s why as a country we have stood firm and made it illegal for single or widowed parents to raise children. Everybody knows that having a child raised in a neglectful or abusive environment is totally fine as long as both mommy and daddy are married to each other and is much better than either of them going it alone.

10. It will change the foundation of society as we know it!

Same sex marriage will change the foundation of society. We couldn’t possibly be expected to adapt to such massive changes.. Just like we haven’t adapted to a new currency, cars, the downfall economy, or longer life spans.

So get out and vote on 22nd May!!!!

In case you haven’t guessed by now, Endangered Bodies Ireland is proud to get behind the Yes Equality campaign to guarantee constitutional equality for same sex marriages.
