Endangered Bodies Ireland

Welcome to the Endangered Bodies Ireland website! We are the Irish branch of an international movement that challenges those aspects of culture and industries that turn individuals against their own bodies. We exist to critique and respond to the limited representations of bodies that appear in the mainstream media and to provide a space for dialogue and action on the many challenges to body acceptance that exist in our culture.

Endangered Bodies Ireland is open to everyone. As outlined in the Endangered Bodies Mission and Guidelines, we are committed to respecting the individual identity of all persons as it intersects with size, age, race, culture, gender, sexual identity, sexual orientation, class and ability.

Why do we exist?

Body image is a growing concern in Ireland and effects people from all different walks of life. Eating disorders and body dissatisfaction are on the increase and a recent survey of Irish young people suggests that body image interferes with everyday activities (like taking part in swimming, dating and putting photographs on Facebook) for more than 50% of those surveyed. Find out more on our Get Informed page.

You can also find out more about us by viewing our video entry for the Better Together 2013 competition for non-profit organizations.

Very very good article! The media shows something that is not quite the reality! I will create a post talking about that in my blog! People at home dream of bodies and skins are often shown on TV…I think everyone should assist it. Thanks! Diogo Costa – http://www.massamuscularagora.com

I believe that external beauty is something that we should rather take care of, but it is our character that counts !! Moreover, pretty and “ugly” people use the same thing to become popular

From the moment one benefits to the detriment of another, the thing is wrong. I believe that this type of thinking should permeate for a long time in the lives of everyone in this world.

I also agree. We should spread this pleasant philosophy of life throughout the world.

Both in Ireland and in other countries. This philosophy regarding the body, should be spread around the world.

Very very good article! The media shows something that is not quite the reality, the real beauty is inside of anybody who believes.

Thanks for sharing!

I will create a post talking about that in my blog

The media exaggerates the image that is crafted from the human body. People at home dream of bodies and skins are often shown on TV, full of effects or fancy things that are shown in order to achieve the IDEAL body (the one that the media says is the default).

Indeed the value of stereotypes is too. The media shows something that is not quite the reality, the beauty of the models and all that show, behind there are great sacrifices and wear on health.

Fantastic video message. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mI2Gbp8pKmA

I think everyone should assist it. I will also do a post on this important guidance that every young person should have, not only in Ireland but throughout the world. I will put this video on my facebook page and I’ll create a post on my Blog (http://www.sarah-hebert.com)
